Thomas Glendenning was diagnosed at just age 17 with Ewings Sarcoma (bone cancer) in March 2020 while completing his year 12 during COVID-19 lockdown.
He was travelling from the Gold Coast to Brisbane constantly for treatment, undergoing chemo, radiation and surgery to remove the tumour. He had some remission until March 2022, when he had the grim diagnosis that the cancer had come back with vengeance. Devastatingly, there is no research in further treatment and Thomas has only been given 12-18 months left.
Thomas began making a bucket list to do as much as possible before he couldn’t anymore, and doing a tandem skydive was at the top of his list.
After completing a helicopter jump in Surfers Paradise, he fell in love with the sport and decided he would like to take the adrenaline one step further and learn to jump out of a plane by himself.
At the start of July, Thomas successfully completed all 9 stages of his AFF course at Skydive Byron Bay. Thomas plans to continue jumping for as long as he is able to, and we take inspiration from his passion for making lasting memories with his family and friends.
We feel extremely privileged to have had the opportunity to meet Thomas and help to make his wish of becoming a solo skydiver come true. Thomas’ mum, Kelly, has organised a GoFundMe page to enable him to complete everything on his bucket list. If you would like to help Thomas tick off his bucket list, please click here.
